IPAF Operator Training Course – widely accepted and recognised by the HSE
Boss Training is a member of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).
Our IPAF training courses are available for individuals or groups to book at short notice at one of many conveniently located training centres throughout the UK. IPAF training is for anyone who operates a MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) although novices with little or no previous experience are welcome to take the course. Upon completion of the course, successful delegates are issued with a PAL (Powered Access Licence) card. This is proof of competence and is recognised as the premier training qualification for the safe use of scissor lifts and cherry pickers.
We normally provide training on 2 machine categories (3a and 3b are the most popular) in the course, although 3 categories can be done at certain venues.

3a (Mobile Scissor Lift)
3b (Mobile Boom)
1a (Static Vertical)
1b (Static Boom/Van Mount)
MEWPS for Managers is an excellent course for those people who manage or supervise the use of Powered Access Equipment. As with all IPAF courses, the licence is valid for 5 years.
Remember, only registered IPAF training centres are able to deliver the accredited course and issue genuine certificates and IPAF photo id cards
Technical Guidance:
It is strongly recommended by IPAF that a full body harness complete with a short restraint lanyard is used when operating a boom type MEWP. This would include static (1b) and mobile (3b) booms. Although it is not always necessary to wear a harness in vertical scissor lifts, the need for fall protection will be subject to a risk assessment carried out before the commencement of work. This should be job specific and take into account the manufacturer's instruction manual. BOSS Training offer on-site harness training as well as advice on work at height risk assessment.
