The Health and Safety Executive approved code of practice stipulates that anyone using respiratory protective equipment (RPE) should be trained on how to use it properly in order to protect themselves. Qualitative face fit testing gives candidates the skills to be able to properly check, fit and wear a face mask so that it offers maximum protection from dust, airborne toxins and other dangerous substances.

Face fit testing is a process for anyone who works in an environment where the use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is necessary to ensure that this equipment is properly fitted. Needless to say, when working with dangerous materials such as dust, asbestos and other airborne toxins, the need for a protective mask to fully shield you from such substances is vital.

Conducting a face fit test will usually only take between 20 and 30 minutes and will enable anyone attending to correctly fit and wear respiratory protection equipment. The principles behind the two main methods of fit testing will be explained in this training course, and these methods will be taught using commonplace face masks used in the industry. Attendees will also be shown how to check a mask before use, and how to put the mask on properly to avoid any damage to it. Practical testing of all candidates will take place to ensure a thorough understanding.

Course Outline:

  • Practical demonstration of the most common types of face fit methods.
  • Theory presentation on why RPE is used within the workplace.
  • Competence test for delegates which includes hands-on testing with a qualified instructor.
