What is IPAF?
The International Powered Access Federation, IPAF is responsible for promoting safe and effective implementation of powered access across the globe. Since 1983 IPAF has remained a not-for-profit members’ organisation that is dedicated to representing the respective interests of all involved in powered access from distributors, manufactures and users to hire and training companies. IPAF has been instrumental in promoting the design, safety and testing procedures that are now taken as standard in industrial practice.
IPAF Training: an introduction
The nature of the IPAF training programme for platform operators is the result of extensive research on behalf of leading industry figures. It is certified by TÜV, which means it has been shown to conform to the international standard (ISO 18878), referring to mobile elevating work platforms and operator training.
IPAF does not provide training itself, training is instead provided by training centres, like Boss Training, that have passed rigorous inspection to gain IPAF approval. Our IPAF accredited training courses are subject to regular auditing. We ensure that our class sizes are compact enough that everyone has their needs met and a variety of people from different backgrounds and with different levels of understanding are catered for.
Courses can be made up of a mixture of theory and practical elements, with a written test component ensuring a level of competence that satisfies IPAF standards are met. On successful completion of IPAF training, attendees will receive a PAL (Powered Access Licence) card, along with a certificate, safety guide and log book. The PAL card is especially useful as it is valid for 5 years, features a photograph of the card holder and can be verified by calling IPAF.
Boss Training IPAF accredited training courses are in high demand and yet careful planning means most courses are usually available at relatively short notice.
