This Qualsafe Level 3 First Aid at Work 3 day course consists of two mandatory units – Unit 1:  Emergency First Aid in the Workplace and Unit 2: Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace. All course information is spread out over 3 days of training by one of our expert instructors.

This qualification is valid for three years. Learners must retake the qualification before the certificate expires, with the possibility of attending a reduced 12-hour requalification course if they present a current or recently expired FAW certificate.

Delegates will be assessed through practical demonstrations and multiple-choice question papers. Practical assessments will cover essential skills such as CPR, managing choking and bleeding, and administering first aid for various injuries and illnesses.

The theory assessment consists of two papers, one per unit, with a maximum time of 25 minutes for Unit 1 and 40 minutes for Unit 2. The pass marks are 11 out of 15 for Unit 1 and 18 out of 25 for Unit 2.

  • You will be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty who is unresponsive, choking or with external bleeding
  • Knowledge of how to provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Knowledge of how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
  • How to conduct a secondary survey
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles, joints, head, spine and chest
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with burns, scalds or eye injuries
  • An understanding of how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected poisoning or suspected major illness
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis

Delegates must be capable of performing practical tasks at floor level. It is recommended that participants have a minimum of Level 1 literacy and numeracy skills. Appropriate clothing and footwear, such as trousers and flat shoes, should be worn during the course.
